Housing Assistance Programs

Rolette County Housing Authority offers various housing assistance programs exclusively within Rolette County.

Currently, there are two programs offered by Rolette County Housing Authority:
Public Housing and Section 8 Voucher Program.

Public Housing Program

The Public Housing Program was established to provide safe and decent rental housing for eligible low and moderate-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities within Rolette County. These housing units come in various sizes and types, ranging from scattered duplexes to high-rise apartments for elderly families. All of these units are owned and operated by Rolette County Housing Authority (RCHA), and the rent for these units is determined based on each family’s anticipated annual adjusted income. The rent includes all utilities.

Section 8 Voucher Program

The Section 8 Voucher Program offered by Rolette County Housing Authority allows low-income families in Rolette County the opportunity to rent safe, decent, and sanitary privately-owned dwelling units. Subsidy payments are made by the Housing Authority to the owners on behalf of the family, rather than directly to the family. This program was created under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 and is funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

    How the Programs Work

Because there is typically more demand for program assistance than there are available apartments or vouchers in Rolette County, RCHA utilizes a waiting list to administer the program to eligible families. When an apartment or voucher becomes available, the next family at the top of the waiting list is contacted to go over the process details.
